In treatment of drug dependence we find hypertension in about half of our patients. PATIENT: 44-year-old male treated in the Center for treatment of drug dependence in Bratislava in 1997. Hypertension was found out and treated during his third hospitalization in 2005. In 2007 he came to the center from emergency with the recommendation to administer Lokren. In the first day of treatment blood pressure was 170/120mmHg, gradually decreasing to symptoms of hypotension on the 9th day of his hospitalization. Antihypertensive drugs have been withdrawn in BP 115/75 mmHg. Since then the patient has been abstaining from alcohol and continuing in outpatient therapy. In follow-ups no symptoms of hypertension have been found. CONCLUSION: The case report shows significant improvement of hypertension during the treatment of drug dependence to such an extent that antihypertensive drugs had to be withdrawn.
