Diabetes mellitus is serious worldwide mediacal problem. Dietary and regime changes play an important role in preventive programs of type 2 diabetes mellitus and they are quite effective. On the other side, low adherence of majority of patients to them is known. Having in mind high prevalence of arterial hypertension in patients with overweight or obesity, it is interesting to consider possible effect of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition and angiotensin II blockade on incidence of type 2 diabetes in patients with arterial hypertension and/or chronic heart failure. Mechanisms mediating preventive effects of reninangiotensin- aldosteron system inhibition in relation to development of type 2 diabetes mellitus are probably complexly associated with pathophysiology of the disease.
