Osteoporosis in inflammatory rheumatic diseases is a specific item of secondary osteoporosis. The most is known about osteoporosis in rheumatoid arthritis which serves as a model of this type of osteoporosis. Other inlammatory rheumatic diseases are studied much less. The main determinants of osteoporosis development in these diseases are: characteristics of rheumatic disease, mobility of patient and medicamentous therapy, mainly glucocortidoids. Prevention and treatment of this type of osteoporosis is targeted to therapy of basal rheumatic disease, improvement of patient mobility, calcium and vitamin D supplementation. If osteoporosis is diagnosed or the patient suffered an osteoporotic fracture the treatment with bisphosphonates or teriparatid is indicated.
