Acute coronary syndromes (unstable angina pectoris - UP, myocardial infarction without ST segment elevation - NSTEMI and with ST-segment elevation - STEMI) represent serious cardiovascular diseases. The combined pharmacotherapy is used in the treatment. Especially important role is played by antithrombotic agents. Both risk stratification and consequent invasive diagnostics are very important in the management of UA and NSTEMI. Reperfusion therapy indicated as soon as possible is a key treatment strategy in the STEMI patients. Most effective is a primary coronary intervention (PCI) and in the first 2 hours of STEMI fibrinolysis can be considered as well. Careful control of cardiovascular risk factors is required in all patients.
