Presented review brings the first from two papers describing current European and our national guidelines of preoperative management of cardiac patients. It brings the principles for the physicians indicating and managing the patients suffering from the disease of their cardiovascular system, from the viewpoint of the prognosis, evaluating the ratio of risk and benefits of diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Current guidelines may help the physicians and health care authorities in their daily clinical practice. Final decisions for the individual patient are always depending on his own physician. Presented is the cardiologic management of cardiac patients where during non-cardiac surgery their underlying cardiac disease is a potential risk of future complications. It brings the useful tool for the routine daily practice of the current ESC and SCS guidelines.
