The authors in this article have described the physiological conditions needed for normal gastric juice secretions, as well as the states in which anti secretion treatment is indicated. Since we have currently efficient preparations available, such as proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI), which are practically capable of blocking the production of gastric acid completely, it is necessary to learn how to regulate the intensity of such treatment properly. It might vary greatly in different diseases as well as it might dynamically change depending on a disease stage. Like-wise other groups of medicinal products, the anti-secretions have their own side effects. The authors have pointed out to them and drawn special attention to how to avoid them. They have also pointed out to the fact that this class of medications is frequently prescribed by many internal specialists and general practitioners and sometimes also uselessly, on the other hand they are forgotten when they should be used “lege artis”.
