Polyoxidonium is one of the few synthetic immunomodulators available for clinical praxis. It is high-molecular, water-soluble compound with high bioavailability. From chemical point of view, polyoxidonium is N-oxidized polyethylene-piperazine derivative. In clinical praxis, polyoxidonium is used due to its immunomodulatory, detoxicant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and membrane- stabilizing properties. Polyoxidonium acts through the changes of the characteristics of biological membranes followed by changes in intracellular signalization and production of various signalling molecules. It activates immune cells and positively influences the interactions among them. The main indications for its use are various immunodeficiencies associated with inflammation of different ethiology. Preparation has found its use in different medicine branches and definitely enlarged therapeutic options in the management of different diseases and conditions.
