Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic immune/antigen mediated esophageal disorder with eosinophilic infiltration
of esophageal mucosa leading to symptoms of esophageal dysfunction. This condition has rapidly emerged as an
important cause of upper gastro-intestinal morbidity in patient undergoing endoscopic examination for dysphagia or
food impaction. This articel summarizes epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical, endoscopical and histological features of
disease and diagnostic dilema of quite newly recognized entity of proton pump inhibitor – responsive esophageal eosinophilia
(PPI-REE). It also describes a pharmacologic and a non-pharmacologic treatment including endoscopic treatment
of late complications of EoE.
