Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is noninflammatory autoimmune disease characterized by thromboses and pregnancy
morbidity, which are caused by antiphospholipid antibodies. It is the most frequent cause of acquired thrombophilic
disorder. Revised Sapporo criteria 2006 reduce overestimatimation of the diagnosis, but during last years they are
thought to be too „strict” – therefore addition of futher clinical criteria, and mostly futher diagnostic antibodies, will be
needed. New findings have changed opinion on obstetric APS. Besides thromboses of placenta, also inflammation, immunomodulation
and defective placentation play a role. Effect of heparin is not only antithrombotic, but complex, too.
