The upper gastrointestinal tract (GIT) motility disorders are less common gastroenterology diseases. Their diagnostics
is demanding and time consuming. Frequently it is necessary to combine several examination modalities to make
the final diagnosis. Sometimes we encounter severe peristaltic disorders with slight clinic symptomatology but we also
experience cases with the patients having discrete motility disorders with substantial symptomatic manifestations.
Patients with so-called functional diseases contribute to a considerable extent in this spectrum where the base for development
of syndromes is not objectified. Endoscopic and imaging methods are used in the initial diagnostics which
should precede the specialized functional examinations such as manometry, pH-metry with impedance and electrogastrography.
Technological progress has provided the highly sophisticated diagnostic methods, which can help optimize
patients’ treatment.
