Infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria are associated with increased morbidity, mortality,
extended hospitalization time and increased costs. Accelerated development of antimicrobial resistance in Gram-negative
bacteria is a multifactorial process caused by high adaptability, contagiousness and virulence of such pathogens,
underlined by a lack of new effective drugs specific active on this group of microorganisms. Multiple resistance mechanisms
enable numerous Gram-negative bacteria resist most of recently available antibiotics. This is especially prominent
in serious infections when effective eradication of causative microorganism is urgently needed. Today´s rapid global
spread of multidrug-resistant strains revives strict epidemic measures that only can control this process.
