Heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are freguently co-existent diseases which influence each other. Both diseases
have great increase in prevalences, mostly in elderly people. In one recent registry of AF there was a great proportion
of patients with HF: paroxyzmal AF (33 %), persistent AF (44 %) and permanent AF (56 %). Authors present risk factors of
both diseases (hypertension, ischemic heart disease, diabetes), they discuss pathophysiology of both diseases, and also
ways how to prevent both diseases. They present also treatments to both diseases, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic
one. Some discussion is also about HF with normal systolic function. They try to be practically useful for clinicians.
