Health care insurance in the Slovak Republic is based on principle of solidarity. The redistribution of insurance is realized by the risk indices according to sex and 17 age groups. Materials and methods: The analysis of decade during which the cost risk indices were applied to redistribution mechanism of the health care insurance in the Slovak Republic in age group of children between 0 to 19 years of age, whose insurance fees are covered by the state. Results: Boys and girls in age group 0 to 4 years of age were the most expensive age group in the monitored period. Significant gradual increase in cost risk index as compared to the year of 1999 is in the group of boys in age group between 15 to 19 years of age, i.e. also increase the financial package supplied to the system for the provided health care in this group of patients. Conclusion: The usage of redistribution mechanism of the health care insurance, whose goal should be reaching the most reasonable system of solidarity, is meaningful.
