The presented review is dedicated to problems of surfactant (poractant alfa) therapy of immature neonates who are suffering from respiratory distress syndrome (IRDS) as well as to complications of the therapy and disease. Despite the introduction of surfactant into the therapeutic algorithms, respiratory distress syndrome is still an important cause of morbidity and mortality of immature neonates. With increasing number of extremely immature neonates also the morbidity is increasing. The aim of presented retrospective study was to evaluate the late onset complications of low birth weight newborns and their influence on the next follow up.
