Background: Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy of proper frequency, intensity, and duration has positive effects on an organism and it is the most valuable therapeutic option for a wide range of human disorders as a causal or supportive therapy. Aims: In literature, there is not enough information about the influence of the pulsating electromagnetic field on respiratory system. In this study we focused on a possible therapeutic effect of the pulsating electromagnetic field in adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or bronchial asthma and in children with bronchial asthma. We were especially curious which will be effect of pulsed electromagnetic field on pulmonary function in children. Therapeutic effect of pulsed electromagnetic field were assessed on the basis pulmonary function tests. We supposed more favourable effect in children than in adults because they were in evolution and process of bronchial asthma was still in beginning. Methods: The pulsating electromagnetic field was applied by means of the device MTU 500 H (Therapy System, Brno, Czech Republic). Results: We found out that the pulsed electromagnetic field therapy was effective in adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or bronchial asthma as well as in children with bronchial asthma. Conclusion: In disorders like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma the causal therapy is pharmacotherapy; pulsed electromagnetic field therapy is only a supportive therapy.
