Late effects of cancer and treatment in childhood cancer survivors occur in two of three patients and in one of four can be severe. Most severe effects are observed in patients with CNS tumors, they reach long-term survival about 60 %. On average 24 new children become brain tumor survivors in the Slovak Republic annually. Late effects are consequences of brain tumor and its therapy – surgery, chemotherapy and mainly radiotherapy. Most prevalent are neurocognitive, neurologic and endocrinologic sequelae. Many studies also found psychosocial problems: adaptability difficulties of survivors, lower percentage of high school graduation and lower quality of life in comparison with their healthy peers. Early diagnostics of problems and advances in medical and social care can improve survivors’ quality of life.
