Compulsory, non-selective screening tests performed in neonates in Slovakia are ruled by the Ministry of Health. These are laboratory tests to screen infants for congenital hypothyreosis, phenylkenonuria, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and cystic fibrosis. Other compulsory screening tests are the screening for congenital cataract, screening for hearing disorder and screening for developmental dysplasia of the hips. Ultrasound examination of the brain and kidneys and pulse oximetry screening for critical congenital heart disorders are not compulsory but generally performed. The article summarizes the rules of practical realization of particular tests and further steps following the positivity of the screening.
