Introduction: Spa treatment indicated for medical reasons is part of the treatment and preventive care and is paid out of public health insurance. Material and methods: In work are analysed data about spa treatment from the NCZI database for the period 1999 to 2008. The aim of work was to find out how change in spa treatment financing (since 2004) influenced the numbers of treated paediatric patients and the results of treatment in the two five-year periods: 1999 to 2003 and 2004 to 2008. Results: In the spa were together treated 46 598 paediatric patients in first analysed period and 29 319 paediatric patients in second analysed period. There was an increase in the number of treated patients only in two indicating groups XXVII. and XXIX. between years 2004 and 2008. Analysis of the treatment results showed a decrease of the number of children with improved health status at the end of treatment from 96.7 % to 94.8 % and increase of the number of children with unchanged health status from 0.3 % to 3.7 %. The most significant changes were in two indicative groups: XXVI. and XXVII. Conclusion: It is important to correctly indicate the spa treatment in paediatric patients, in order to improve the health status of paediatric patients and therefore their quality of life. K
