The composition and function of the human milk is unique and gives the basis for the development of the modern artificial milk formulas which can offer to the non-breast-fed children the most similar substitution of the human milk. Besides the immunomodulatory factors, the research is focused on the unique composition and structure of the human milk fat with the high content of β-palmitic acid. According to the available studies, we have the evidence for several beneficial physiological functions of the increased content of β-palmitate added to the milk formulas. It positively influences the fatty acid metabolism, increases the calcium absorption, improves the bone matrix quality and the stool consistency and has positive effect on the development of intestinal microbiome.
