Rotavirus disease is the most common infection in childhood. The risk of disease is approximately the same in both developing as well as developed countries. The important difference is the number of deaths. More than 80 % of deaths occur in Africa and Asia, caused by comorbidities, malnutrition and especially inaccessibility of healthcare in these countries. Rotavirus gastroenteritis, unlike other causes of gastroenteritis is often accompanied by various complications, which may contribute to dramatic course of disease, frequent hospitalizations and deaths. In the literature review we can find complications which occur frequently or rarely. The aim of this work is to summarize and highlight the complications, and noted that currently there is effective prevention of the disease – immunization.
