Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndrome and it is considered
one of the most common chronic liver diseases in childhood. Its occurrence has due to the association with childhood
overweight and obesity alarming trend. Inadequate management of the disease is associated with a potentially high
risk of morbidity with increasing age. The disease is still underdiagnosed in childhood and it is assumed that some of
the cases of cryptogenic liver cirrhosis in adulthood may be preceded by unidentified NAFLD/NASH in childhood. The
authors discussed current information of etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and management of NAFLD/NASH in childhood.
