Bronchiolitis is acute inflammatory disease of the lower respiratory tract in children younger than 2 years. Diagnosis is
clinical and varies according to the authors. Causal therapy is not available and opinions for use the symptomatic treatment
are not uniform. Generally, it is necessary to ensure adequate nutrition, fluid intake and tissue oxygenation. In
the 2014 the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) updated recommendations for the diagnosis, management and
prevention of acute bronchiolitis in children younger than 2 years. In this review article we offer a summary of those
recommendations. In the second part, we evaluate the management of children hospitalized in the Pediatric Department
of Hospital Poprad, with the clinical signs of bronchiolitis.
