Increase in the prevalence of allergic diseases encourages the intensive investigation of its etiopathogenesis and consequently the possibility of its effective prevention. Immunoglobulins IgE are generally associated with allergies and therefore they paid increased attention. It is not exactly clarified yet, whether there is a separate synthesis of IgE antibodies by fetus in the prenatal period, or IgE are capable to cross the placental barrier from mother. This is a key point in the determination of the real predictive value of cord-blood IgE in the prediction of allergic diseases. In the individual studies, the authors have found out different results yet, predominantly those in which the association of cord-blood IgE has been linked with the development of allergies in childhood.
