Oral allergy syndrome was domain of adulthood, but in recent years, we more often encount with it in children. Oral allergy syndrome develops on the basis of cross-reactivity between homologous allergenic components in foods of plant origin and grasses or trees pollens, thus affecting patients primarily allergic to pollen. The symptoms of this disease are usually mild and located in the oropharyngeal region. In rare cases, however, systemic reactions, even anaphylaxis may occur. The most important step in any adverse reaction to a food is to determine whether the condition is based on non-immunologically food intolerance, a true food allergy, or symptoms are the result of cross-reactivity phenomena. It influences further diagnostic procedures and therapeutic management. The present review article provides basic information on oral allergy syndrome in children.
