WHO consider breastfeeding to be primary and most important public intervention to health of all newborns and small infants with whole-life impact on health. Statistics show worldwide low breastfeeding rates, especially in some European reagions. According to regional committee WHO for Europe, one of the main reasons for this situation is infringement of the International code of marketing of breast milk substitutes (Code), whereby the worst impact on breastfeeding rate has Code infringement by health workers and health care providers. Probably reason for this is health workers ignorance of the Code and unconsciousness of resposiblity toward the Code. This unfavourable situation is helped by insufficient implementation of the Code in legal measures. This article aims to evoke the Code, to show examples of its infrigement on the part of health care system, and especially to offer recommendations for its adherence.
