The “stretching”, with the death of a baby has been known for thousands of years, but today the SIDS (sudden infant
death syndrome) is not well known. Several risk factors have been identified, as well as those that reduce SIDS, which
has allowed the development of preventative measures to prevent some of the sudden death of the child. Recently,
several meta-analyzes have been published, in which the authors confirm the protective effect of breastfeeding before
SIDS. Based on these meta-analyzes and scientific studies, all major professional societies also included information
on the preventive role of breastfeeding before the onset of SIDS in their recommendations for the prevention of SIDS.
Given the many benefits that babies have, there is another reason to prevent the syndrome, which we still do not know
about the exact etiopathogenesis.
