Febrile seizures (FS) are the most common seizure disorder of childhood, that are mostly an introduction into febrile disease.
FS are defined as seizures in association with febrile illness occuring in a child aged between 6 and 60 months
in the absence of a central nervous system infection, metabolic disturbance or history of afebrile seizures. Causative
factors of FS have not been completely identified. FS have a multifactorial inheritance, suggesting that both genetic
and enviromental factors are causative. FS have a major genetic predisposition and nearly always have a benign outcome
with excellent prognosis requiring minimum diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
