Objectives: The combined contraceptive vaginal (NuvaRing®) has been shown to be effective and safe, with high levels of user compliance, acceptance and satisfaction. The data collected from registration studies may differ from the daily clinical practice. The Slovak Experience project was initiated to gain into NuvaRing use in daily practice. Methods: A total of 392 women, recruited by gynaecologsits in 50 centers in Slovakia, participated in this observational study. Data on acceptance, compliance, satisfaction, safety were collected during first 3 months of ring use via questionnaire. Results: The results of this study were almost identical of the international registration and other studies. The bleeding pattern was much better than that with the pill. Only a few women discontinued because of local adverse events such as discomfort during the intercourse. The majority of women complied with regimen and was satisfied with NuvaRing, because of the once-a month administration and easy use. Conclusions: The first clinical experiences with NuvaRing in daily practice in Slovakia confirm that the contraceptive ring is a reliable, safe and convenient method of contraception.
