Objective: Assess the awareness of gynaecologists and paediatricians of the primary prevention of uterine cervix carcinoma. Material and Methods: In April 2006, 100 gynaecologists and 100 paediatricians were approached by survey taking workers throughout the territory of the Slovak Republic. The questions concerned their knowledge of the role of HPV in the development of uterine cervix carcinoma and its precursors and the role of vaccination in primary prevention. The survey was conducted in April 2006. Results: Only 40 % of gynaecologists and 30 % of paediatricians responded correctly to the question of what is the main cause of uterine cervix carcinoma and stated the human papilloma virus. 92 % of gynaecologists and 95 % of paediatricians did not know the name of bivalent vaccine and 93 % of gynaecologists and 89 % of paediatricians did not know the name of quadrivalent vaccine according to the enclosed description. The readiness to vaccinate was stated surprisingly by more gynaecologists (87 %) than paediatricians (67 %). Conclusion: The results of the survey point out to a need to raise the information of gynaecologists and paediatricians in the area of vaccination against uterine cervix carcinoma.
