Surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence brings immediate results, but on the other hand it is also accompanied by many different complications. We recognize immediate, early and late complications. Bleeding, infection, injuries of the urinary tract, intestine and nerves belong to the group of immediate and early complications. Recurrence of pelvic organ prolapse, incidence of de novo urge incontinence, voiding disorders, vaginal stenosis, recurrence of stress incontinence and also functional failure are defined as late complications. It is very important to put emphasis on careful indication to reduce incidence of complications. A reconstructive operation should be performed by an experienced surgeon-urogynaecologist.
