Treatment of heavy uterinal bleeding (metrorrhagia) can be divided into medicamentous and surgical treatment. Endometrial ablation and hysterectomy belongs to surgical treatment. Endometrial ablation is a minimal invasive method. The basis of this technique is destruction of basal layer of the endometrium that is deprived of ability to regenerate. Methods of endometrial ablation are divided into the methods of the first and second generation. Indication for the treatment is benign cause of bleeding. Hormonal preparation of the endometrium might be needed before operation. The most frequent complications of the first generation techniques are perforation of the uterus and „fluid overload syndrome“. The most frequent complications of the second generation develops due to uncontrolled effect of the energy to surrounding tissue and perforation of the uterus.
