In recent decades the prognosis for pregnancy complicated by diabetes mellitus has been changed due to the progress in possibilities of insulin treatment. Introducing insulin analogues improves glycemic control (metabolic compensation of diabetes), patientś compliance and reduces number of hypoglycemic events. Efficacy and safety for analogues use during pregnancy is still discussed because of their mitogenic activity. Outcomes of pregnancy complicated by diabetes mellitus type 1 treated by detemir are presented in our case report. This is the first case report in Slovakia. Two years after delivery no adverse effects of insulin analogue treatment in mother and her child were observed.
