The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the incidence, complications during pregnancy and delivery management in women with epilepsy. The study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the General Hospital Trencin in the period 2005 – 2011. Within this particular period, 40 out of 10 023 deliveries occurred in women with epilepsy. Status epilepticus was observed in two cases during pregnancy. As far as pregnancy complications were concerned, 3 cases of preeclampsia were recorded overall and foetal hypotrophy was confirmed in 2 women. One woman was diagnosed with hepatopathy and a case of gestational diabetes mellitus and cardiomyopathy was recorded in one woman. Perinatal mortality was 25 ‰. 28 women delivered vaginally (70 %) and 12 patients underwent a Caesarean section (30 %). Antiepileptic treatment or type of epilepsy had no significant impact on deciding upon the management of each delivery case. Due to epilepsy, caesarean section was performed electively in 3 cases.
