Ultrasound examination is a non-invasive diagnostic method, which enables to predict the diagnosis of endometriosis very early, to set it is anatomical localization and extent of the disease. However it is limited by it is variability of the ultrasound image. By ultrasound it is possible to diagnose cysts in the not enlarged ovaries, what is not possible by the digital examination. If there is a presence of ovarian endometriosis, it is necessary to exclude extra ovarian lesions of endometriosis, adhesive changes of the small pelvis and adenomyosis of the uterus, because these changes are very often concomitant. Transvaginal sonography is an easy, feasible and cheap diagnostic method in the preoperative staging of deep infiltrating endometriosis with satisfactory results of diagnostic accuracy. Precise preoperative examination is required to enable the best therapeutic procedure and planning of the therapy.
