Ovarian malignity is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women. Whole population screening for ovarian cancer
is not, regarding today’s knowledge about the disease, effective. The overall 5-year survival in stage I is 90-95%
in stage III 30-31% and stage IV below 25%. Screening is only partially effective in the high-risk group of women. Combined
screening, in high-risk groups, leads to earlier detection of ovarian cancer. In these women prophylactic oophorectomy
or bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is recommended. FIGO, in the prevention of ovarian cancer, recommends
risk stratification of individual patients. It is recommended to focus on the family history, regularly gynaecologic examinations
and performing a combined screening (TVS and the level of CA125) in risk groups of patients.
