The analysis of selected maternal morbidity indexes in the Slovak Republic in the year 2015 compared to the year 2014
is presented. The rate of caesarean sections decreased to 30.2 %, the rate of vacuum extractions increased to 1.6 % and
the rate of forceps deliveries was the same – 0.6 %. The rate of peripartum hysterectomies increased to 0.09 %. Thirdand
fourth-degree perineal tears rate increased up to 0.68 %, but the frequency of episiotomies decreased to 57.2 %.
The rate of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia decreased to 2.86 %, and 0.03 % of deliveries respectively. The rate of HELLP
syndrome was the same - 0.09 % of deliveries. Frequency of sepsis during pregnancy and puerperium decreased up to
0.02 %. Frequency of severe postpartum haemorrhage and admission to the intensive care unit/department of anaesthesiology
& resuscitation increased to 0.29 % and 0.14 % respectively, and frequency of abnormally invasive placentation
decreased to 0.06 %.
