Choriobiopsy is an invasive prenatal diagnostic method. Indications for CVS are quite same as those for amniocentesis
– for CVS it is the positive first trimester screening. CVS is indicated between 10-15th gestational week; the
procedure is performed by punction needles under ultrasound guidance, transcervically or transabdominally, preferable
is a transabdominal approach. The sample from CVS is karyotyped in the genetic laboratory, the laboratory
processing and interpretation of the results is more difficult, than it is in amniocentesis. The most frequent possible
error is maternal contamination and mosaicism. The main benefit of the method is the early availability of the
results. The risk of CVS performed by an experienced specialist is same as at amniocentesis.
