The authors of the article pay attention to the modern history of reproductive health in Slovakia. Until the year 1989 in Slovakia or former Czechoslovakia, there was not any family planning and the number of abortions was high. The abortions often supplied contraceptives. Just after the change in political regimen mainly under the impact of information of volunteers from the field of family planning and spread of contraceptive methods, the number of abortions plummeted. Despite that there is an effort of opponents of reproductive health to restrict the approach to the service of family planning. The Slovak Republic belongs in the number of abortions in the developed world among the countries with the lowest number. Despite that the change in present legislature, it became a tool of politicians to gain the voting base and power. The authors warn that in Slovakia there is not a national programme of reproductive health and sexual education, due to which there is missing knowledge about the risk of sexually transmitted infections, but also about sexual abuse of children and responsible approach to family planning.
