Sono-lysis (sonothrombolysis) is a novel therapeutic procedure for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. The principle of therapeutical effect is acceleration of clot lysis using ultrasound by both direct mechanical effect (heating, cavitation, increasing of moving of sonificated medium) and activation of fibrinolytic enzymes and releasing of vasodiatation agents from endothelium. A lot of in vitro and in vivo experinets showed an efficacy of sono-lysis during clot lysis since 1950´s. Except of transtemporal approach, the endovascular sono-lysis is tested in present. Sono-lysis can be combined in AIS patients with thrombolytic drugs, mechanical recanalization methods or echocontrast agents which incresed the effect of sono-lysis.
