Disorders of lipoproteins metabolisms belong to the major risk factors of ischemic heart disease and stroke. In case of ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarction is the causal relationship well documented by many clinical trials, in case of stroke is this relationship less clear. Beside of strong proatherogenic influence of cholesterol and LDL is in the present intensively discussed the protective role of HDL. Most of dyslipidemias in the population have polygenic genetic background, on their development acts mainly the genes with small influence and the environmental factors. In our article we summarize the lipoprotein metabolism disorders from the view of various classifications. We also analyze their genetic background and influence on the stroke development.
