Stroke is the second most common cause of death worldwide and one of the leading causes of long-term disability.
Sleep-disordered breathing is an independent risk factor of vascular morbidity and mortality. It is a frequent comorbidity
of stroke. Association of sleep-disordered breathing with atrial fibrillation is also well known. Atrial fibrillation
is responsible for about 25 % of all ischemic strokes. Although we are not able to establish a clear causal relationship
among sleep-disordered breathing, atrial fibrillation and ischemic stroke, atrial fibrillation seems to play important role
linking sleep-disordered breathing with ischemic stroke.
