Introduction: Mild traumatic brain injury or concussion can lead to long-lasting symptoms called postconcussion syndrome
(PCS). The authors focus on defining PCS, its etiology, differential diagnosis and complex management. The review
section is supplemented with original findings from a group of patients after concussion, and a case report of a patient
with persisting postconcussion symptoms.
Results: In our longitudinal study we folloved 31 patients between 3 – 7 months after concussion and PCS was found in
62.5% of them. The most commonly reported symptoms were memory problems(62.5%), irritability (54.2%), headache
(54.2%), fatigue (50%), and attention deficit(45.8%).
Conclusion: Patients with PCS require complex and multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and therapy. Supervised
training program with regular exercise and gradually increasing intensity plays an important role in therapy of PCS.
Symptomatic pharmacological treatment is indicated in the case of resistant symptoms.
