Bickerstaff´s brainstem encephalitis (BBE), Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) and Miller Fisher syndrome (MFS) is a range
of acute immune-mediated diseases. BBE is a disease characterized by the same triad of symptoms as the Miller Fisher
syndrome (ataxia, areflexia and ophthalmoplegia), but at the same time there are also signs of involvement of central
nervous system. Because of the similarity between these two diseases some authors have proposed a theory called
Fisher – Bickerstaff syndrome as a continuous spectrum of these two diseases. Treatment consists of administration of
imunoglobulines. Prognosis is usually good with the recovery without residual deficit. In the paper we present a case
report from our department.
