Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a genetic disease causing brain damage in almost every patient. It affects cellular
differentiation, proliferation and migration at an early stage of development of human organs. As a consequence of
these pathological processes, hamartoma lesions are mainly formed, which can affect virtually any organ of the human
body. As far as neurological symptoms are concerned, epileptic seizures prevail, as observed in approximately 90% of
patiens, and in many cases these are intractable. There also is a frequent occurence of a symptomatic group labelled
“TAND” (TSC-associated neuropsychiatric disorders), consisting of autistic spectrum, attention deficit and hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD), mental retardation and sleep disorders.
