Objectives: Analysis of congenital obstructive uropathy of the upper urinary tract and ureter which has been surgically repaired. The retrocaval ureter is a less common congenital obstruction of the ureter. Reasons of development, diagnosis and surgical treatment of the retrocaval ureter are discussed in the _article. Material and methods: Retrospective analysis of obstruction anomalies of the upper urinary tract and ureter surgically treated between 2004-2008 was done. The diagnosis of obstruction was confirmed in all patients with ultrasound and excretory urography. In the unclear cases patients had CT or MRI investigation. Results: During assessed period 103 patients were treated because of congenital obstructive uropathy of the upper urinary tract and the ureter. Two of our patients had retrocaval ureter (34 and 14 years) as a reason of obstruction presented with clinical symptoms of intermittent lumbal pain. Conclusion: Retrocaval ureter is a rare congenital anomaly which can be the reason of obstruction of the upper urinary tract. This disease is typically present between the third and fourth decades. The authors report diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of two cases of retrocaval ureter. Treatment is based on surgical discission of the ureter and its re-anastomosis anteriorly of the vena cava.
