Infectious endocarditis has been a seroius medical problem for years. When compared with the past, the incidence of rheumatic fever has significantly decreased while the number of children with complex congenital heart diseases has increased. The authors present prophylactic protocols of infectious endocarditis according to recommendations of American Cardiologic Association in 1997 and instructions of European Cardiologic Association from 2004. Invasive procedures connected with bacteriaemia are shown, patients are classified according to the mild, moderate and severe risk , preventive methods of infectious endocarditis in children and further effective steps in prevention of this serious complication are reported in the _article.
