The types of measurement of blood pressure are: casual (on ambulance or at department), self monitoring at home by patient or him relatives and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). The most often indications of ABPM are: 1. white-coat hypertension, 2. white-coat effect, 3. white-coat normotension, 4. resistant hypertension, 5. hypertension of elderly, 6. hypertension in pregnancy, 7. nocturnal hypertension, 8. hypertension of diabetics, 9. consideration of effect of antihypertensive therapy, 10. diagnose hypotensive episode. Follow-up parameters are: mean 24-hour, mean day, mean nocturnal blood pressure, diurnal index for systolic and diastolic blood pressure, hypertonic time index for systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse pressure, maximal, minimal, mean heart rate. The newest parameters are indicators of homogeneity of the blood pressure reduction – trough-to-peak ratio and smoothness index.
