Aortic stenosis is a chronic progressive disease with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, most often in form of a valvular narrowing, less frequently as a subaortic or supravalvular stenosis. The correct diagnosis of aortic stenosis can be concluded after a complex left ventricular outflow tract morphology account - not only with the assessment of valvular leaflets and normal aortic root but taking into consideration also possible congenital variations, like the presence of a bicuspid aortic valve with its frequently associated defects and potential risks. It is equally important to understand the hemodynamic consequences of aortic stenosis, which present with typical clinical symptoms and signs; and all this builds the complex clinical picture of the aortic stenosis in any phase of its natural history.
