Atherosclerosis is one of the most serious problems of today’s medicine. Based on today’s knowledge, it is a long term, continuous and multifactorial process, influenced by a multitude of risk factors. Thus an effective influence on the negative prognosis can only be expected if a complex of preventive measures is applied commencing in the early childhood. A nation-wide consensus is necessary that would lead into a broad acceptance of the healthy lifestyle principles. It must also include measures taken by the health care system. Slovakia implements a full scale multilevel screening. Its organization is defined in the Slovak Ministry of Health Guideline from the year 2004 and in the Slovak National Program of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention from the year 2010. Problems we can see in the continuity of the care over the years. The study objective is to provide cardiologists with a review of tasks resulting from this programme.
