Endovascular treatment has become with the development of minimally invasive endovascular techniques a first-line treatment option in the treatment of patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI). The large armamentarium of treatment options include standard plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA), utilisation of drug eluting balloons (DEB), implantation of different sorts of stents, atherectomy, „cutting-balloon“ or „scoring-balloon“ angioplasty, cryoplasty and laser utilisation. Standard or alternative recanalisation techniques are being utilised in the recanalisation of lower extremity stenotic-occlusive arterial disease. The goal of this article is to give an overview about endovascular options in the treatment of patients with different stages of critical limb ischemia, especially with infrapopliteal involvement.
